Thanks to fellow eagle eyed Seibertron users, Sabrblade and Nathaniel Prime, and the folks over at In Demand Toys, we have our first look at a reissue of G1 Soundwave and Buzzsaw! The pictures come from In Demand Toys Facebook page, and show Soundwave in packing.
One thing to notice is that this is the single door version. While Hasbro have not made any comments about this reveal yet, it is likely that this will be the next release in the Walmart reissue series, along with the already leaked trailer less G1 Optimus Prime.
What do you think of this reissue? Will you be on the hunt for him? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

They'd be too big anyway. The toys are scaled perfectly to so-called micro-cassettes though.
if you're talking about Blaster, he was a working radio, hidden inside a micro-cassette

Avoiding trademark dilution. Kinda like what could happen with Kleenex for tissues, or Q-Tips for cotton swabs: if those names become commonplace enough, the USPTO could render the term generic, disqualifying it for trademarking purposes.

The real question is, is this Soundwave reissue gluten free? Does he have 0 trans fats?

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but...CobraKai wrote:What do they mean when they say “single door” version? Was there a variant of G1 Soundwave? Anyone got pics of the other version?
Japanese G1 got a second helping of Soundwave ala Sounblaster (or even funnier, "New Soundwave" according the dubs I've seen). He's black and red with a remolded chest window, making him able to hold two tapes instead of just one.
SW has been reissued multiple times over the years, but Hasbro once reissued SW using the SB mold. Meaning he was blue and gold proper, but could hold two tapes.
So these days, the amount of tapes a G1 cassette dude can hold is noteworthy.

They mean the version of the door that was used on the original 1984 release of the toy, which could only store one cassette inside Soundwave's chest.CobraKai wrote:What do they mean when they say “single door” version? Was there a variant of G1 Soundwave? Anyone got pics of the other version?
In 1987, Japan released a new black version of Soundwave named Soundblaster, whose door had been retooled to jut outward so that the toy could instead hold two cassettes inside its chest.
Over the years, both versions have seen release in various reissues of Soundwave from both Hasbro and TakaraTomy. This latest Hasbro reissue looks to be using the normal 1984 Soundwave door version instead of the Soundblaster version of the door.

Indeed. It was indeed theorized that the original Microman mold is lost, and the newer releases have been reconstructed from molds of newer variations, including Soundblaster, but the Classics reissue of 2006 is the only one to have that double-tape door.

If the 2009 release had a bunch of cassettes with it then no, it was not the original mold. The original mold opened like a normal cassette player. When it was retooled for the double cassettes the hinge was moved down closer to the molded buttons. When they wanted to go back to the single cassette gimmick, they had to make a new door.

and that's one of the most impressive part of this recent spate of reissues - the fact they're releasing them in g1-esque packaging. I wish to refocus on my g1 collection a bit this year so hope they release more... maybe another Magnus or hound

Death has never seen Ratatouille a "peasant dish" with powerful nostalgia can be quite pleasing.

Chuck, do you happen to have any pictures that demonstrate the molding difference between the original G1 Soundwave release and the later "restored" releases that use the Soundblaster tooling with a newly sculpted flat door? I think that would be interesting and help people decide whether they want to buy this upcoming Soundwave reissue.

So this next wave will be:
Optimus
Soundwave
?
Minibot wave 2? CLiffjumper I assume as he was in the movie
I wonder if there will be another big item like Devs
based on them doing characters appearing in the movie (op, soundwave, starscream) is a Blitzwing reissue coming as well? We know they reissued him a few years ago in that other color scheme.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Chuck's wrong anyway. The hinge relocation (and accompanying solid buttons piece) was done before the Soundblaster fat door was made, as a running change on the Takara G1 Soundwave. The hinge was relocated because the original internal hinge breaks too easily and is a bugger to repair.
Ya know, that makes much more sense than what I said because I've heard about the door breaking and being a pain to fix.

I see. Thanks. So his chest pops out a little more, kinda likeTitan Returns Soundwave as opposed to being flat.
