Hasbro and Paramount have been pretty good at keeping the bot designs for the upcoming Transformers One film a secret, revealing them to the world tomorrow. But we got at least this ONE leak before tomorrow’s trailer. It is a toy of Optimus Prime. We do know with certainty the line or size class (since once again, the movie toys are being released by in 2 different lines) but it does give us our first good look at the design the film is going for.
Also, note that this is indeed Optimus Prime, Orion’s evolved look, which wont be how Orion looks like for most of the film.
Blokees has gotten the Transformers license to make small chibi style models of Transformers designs. Their previous efforts have all been G1 based, and you can see the products in the links below. The G1 products came in blind boxes and that's the only way their website sells them so places like Ali Express have sellers who sell them per individual character.
Their newer models are more expensive but come with bases, effects, and LEDs. They are based on the Rise of the Beasts film.
Images below followed by links to the previous series.
Chris Hemsworth is eager for you to see the first trailer for the Transformers One film. He plays Orion Pax and he shared a video with Brian Tyler Henry, who plays D16/Megatron, promoting the upcoming trailer. It is available on his Twitter page:
For the past month, Hasbro has been uploading Transformers Armada episodes to their Youtube channel. There aren't many, it seems like this post one per week. But as we saw with their other series, they do end up posting
more and now this is simply an extra place for you to watch Armada. Just a heads up in case you did not know, enjoy!
Transformers Legacy's Commander Magmatron is out in Asia (predominantly Honk Kong) and in the UK thanks to InDemandToys. So fans have him in hand and are giving us the best look at this figure, and comparing it to the original. We have a pictorial review that delves into that by TheDapperScrapper. Read it below.
The full dinosaur set comes out really well with them, all being bigger and more articulated than the original.
The new textures and colours also makes them really eye catching.
I like the newer, more realistic style better for the dinosaurs but actually prefer the original look of the Pterosaur.
The Giganotosaurus is easily my favourite of the individual beast modes.
Loving the spiked spine running down the figure and how thick and chunky he looks.
Also nice to have the mechanical robot leg pieces tucked away.
The Elasmosaurus/Plesiosaur is nice in the way that it looks more realistic with it's shorter yet chunkier neck that actually looks more pleasing and proportional.
The downside is that it's not super long and bendy like the original which was always fun.
Although I'm fine with it how it is, I wouldn't mind seeing how an upgrade kit would look with a long and way more bendy neck would be.
Not much to say on the Quetzocoatlus other than it's bigger and better articulated without the original flapping-wing gimmick.
I much prefer the original neck and head design over the new one and also the flexy/rubbery wings I hope will hold up to time.
The big bad himself, Magmatrons combined mode is suitably towering and feels much more solid than the original.
Couple of things I'm not keen on is the rubbery sword that stores in the Gigas tail. It clips in very securely which means it bends and flexes quite a bit when you try to unclip it/pull it out. (Hoping for a hard plastic upgrade kit)
Also wishing for an adapter to mount the Plesiosaur shield on the side of the arm rather than just the back.
Just a nice standing pose with his sword down.
Took me a while to get it so the Legacy's sword wasn't bending all over the place.
Bit of a cheat here in that I unclipped the waist swivel which does give you an ab crunch to work with but you can hide it with camera angles.
Also, as I got my old one down for these comparison shots, i managed to show he's no slouch either for posing.
Lastly, the magmasaur.
Just a big, silly chimera mode and although it's not as clean looking as the original, the increased side gives it such a presence.
The second wave of Transformers Studio Series is being found in the US, The deluxes were found a little while ago at US Targets and Canadian Walmarts but the voyagers are fresher on the scene. The only new voyager mold of wave 2 is Shockwave (with a repacked WFC Starscream). He was found at US Targets (here's a specific sighting from Florida).
Below is a review if you are curious about the toy.
As with many leaks, these first looks are not optimal and either grainy or obscured. Below you will see an image of Transformers One Bumblebee and Optimus drink topper figures. They esch have a robot mode and alt mode version. This is their bodies after they get T Cogs.
We also have a shot of Bumblebee’s mouth. You can see it behind Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyler Henry.
Cinemacon was full of news for Transformers fans and here's one that may be very divisive. The head of Paramount, Brian Robbins, announced that they would be extending their deal with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, where he'll keep producing movies for them. This was announced at the same time that one of Lorenzo's upcoming projects was now in production: the Transformer GI Joe Crossover film.
This is a film that Bonaventura has promised he would deliver, and it seems he is truly intent on delivering that promise, as he stated in a video from earlier this year.
Really good news for the Transformers brand. While the upcoming animated film is trying different things with the Transformers lore (like the characters discovering Transformation), it is testing very well, better than even TMNT Mutant Mayhem, as it is said to be the best tested animated feature in the studio's history.
Word is that Paramount’s upcoming summer animated tentpole Transformers One is the best tested feature toon movie in the studio’s history and will surprise many.
In other fun news, Chris Hemsworth was at the panel and gave a shout out to Peter Cullen who he claims helped him figure out what best approach to use for voicing the character of Orion Pax. This news comes to us from John Campea, who was in attendance. His breakdown of the Transformers One content begins at the 13 minute mark though some fans may be triggered by his comments since he does use very vulgar language towards fans who refuse to accept anything but G1 in their Transformers media.
And here is a quick interview with Brian Tyler Henry and Chris Hemsworth:
While tallying up the various responses to the Transformers One footage shown at Cinemacon, we got a sense of the story, and it appears that the villains of the movie will be the Quintessons. This is pre war and more about the origin of Transformers, so it makes sense that the Quintessons are an element. Both Orion (Optimus) and D 16 (Megatron) will team up to take them on, while also searching for the Matrix of Leadership (this film's MacGuffin) Indiana Jones style.
We also know from a reliable source that the Quintessons will also be part of the Transformers One movie toyline (the one targeted solely at kids).
So, any Quintesson fans out there? Does this news excite you? Let us know!
