Not that they don't need it because they do, they really, really do. However having just spent the best part of £800 collecting the bloody things, I don't think my wallet could take having to do it all over again. lol
Yeah, with Dirge on the way, and owning every other officially released MP Seeker (even the "USA Edition" of MP-3!), plus the iGear Coneheads and even two iGear prototypes for Rainmaker and Acid Storm, I want MP Seekers to be done. They'll find me buried under them on an episode of Hoarders at this rate

I bet Hasbro's got a Skywarp lined up though :BOOM:

I've been thinking about the future of the MP line....

Lets just say we get the entire G1 cartoon cast, would you want more? Think about what's being released in TR right now. Would you buy an MP Topspin? How about an MP Krok? Point is, once the main meat and potatoes of Masterpiece is served, are you going to have room for more? :-?

Well...if things go that long, here's what I predict.
We have G1 Masterpieces. We have Beast Wars Masterpieces. We have movie Masterpieces. In time, I think we'll have Beast Machines, RiD '01, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Animated, Prime, RiD '15...maybe even IDW Masterpieces! :ic$:

If by some miracle Takara manages to get through the entire 1984-1987 cast of the G1 cartoon, and were compelled to continue making figures for the line, they'd probably just move on to making MPs for Masterforce, Victory, Zone, etc.

True.... but my question isn't so much about where you think the line will go, but if they start going off the reservation, will you still be game?

Personally I'm down for everything and anything.

And that's the beauty of it! Since all they have to do is essentially make a highly-articulated highly-detailed action figure with multiple accessories, the engineering costs and hence likely the price of the actual figures AND manufacturing time would go down dramatically - meaning they'd be so easy to pick up and purchase! BRING ON THE MASTERPIECE ACTION MASTERS!!!

I just thought of something, did the Japanese get the action masters? I dont think so. So the MP would have to come from Hasbro, which makes it less possible to exist. In an ideal world, Bandai would get the license to make those as highly poseable action figures.

True, true - I'm not talking in any realistic case, it was half-jokey. But it MP Action Masters did happen, those would be some rather nifty little advantages for us as consumers.

Though talking of cost-effectiveness, is anyone else surprised that we haven't seen a single MP Minibot since Bumblebee? Just from a marketing standpoint, wouldn't it make sense to space out the standard Autobot Cars like Sunstreaker and the larger figures like Inferno and Megatron with smaller, cheaper releases like Brawn and Warpath? Heck, the entire original Minibot lineup aside from Bumblebee have easy retool potential in the 1986 Minibot lineup. Seems a rather odd decision to hold back on them to this extent...

Just because Takara didn't release the Action Masters in the Japanese mass market back then doesn't mean that they weren't at least aware of them. Japan's G2 fiction acknowledged the Action Master versions of Optimus, Megatron, and Blaster in one of their story pages, and one of the 2000s-era reissues of the G1 Optimus toy done by Takara included a Japanese-original redeco of the Action Master Optimus mold.

And I'm pretty sure it was Takara who made the original Action Master molds for Hasbro's market anyway, since a Japanese-original redeco of the Armored Convoy (AM Optimus's truck/jet thing) ended up getting used in one of Japan's Microman toylines during the late-90s.

heres a mini discussion topic.

Why do you collect MPs and what do you do with them?

do you buy them because they look good and are fun?

do you buy them as statues to display in a pose and leave them there?

are you a completionist?

or do you have an unwavering need for plastic crack?

I fairly recently got into the masterpiece line and I've decided to go for a complete post MP-10 Takara collection. So I'll be collecting every numbered release and every lettered release as long as it's a new character (so like MP-10B I'll get but since I already have MP12 I don't need 12+). I like having complete sets of things.

... and fragile, just short of GPS fragile. The regular one has problems with the springs in the shoulders, especially the Hasbro version, while the black one has weak knee joints, breaking after just a few movements. Just thought I should warn you.

Oh trust me that's another major reason why I'm probably skipping that one. I'm not about to drop $200+ at a minimum on a figure if the knees (arms? I forget which one) are just going to explode.

Yes, and because they (should) have advanced engineering.

do you buy them as statues to display in a pose and leave them there?

No, I play with them and then put them back in their boxes.

no, I am currently trying to cut down to one toy per mold, but I havent succeeded yet.

Great news, they totally have a POL system. I use it all the time. Since you already pay up front for the toy, they dont really care when you ship it. They will tell you when its in stock and then you choose what you want to do. You can log into your account page and choose the items you want to ship after that. I dont know what the limit amount of time is but the last time I waited 3 months to ship my items.

So D-max's high praise for Artfire including "best use of the mold" and me loving Road Rage a lot more than Tracks got me to thinking... in general, do you guys think the obscurer characters the MP molds were repainted/retooled into are better toys than the characters the molds were actually meant for? Discounting things like Skywarp and Bluestreak of course, we all know the Prowl and Starscream molds were always meant to be used for them - but I'm talking Artfire, Road Rage, Delta Magnus, Tigertrack, Clampdown; all those guys that aren't actual characters from the show but are made because money and Diaclone/Microman/Headmasters/whatever references. How much more do you like Loud Pedal than Tracks, or Blue Bluestreak than Smokescreen; if at all?

Don't know about those, but I certainly like G2 Lambor more than regular Lambor. That face is priceless, and the spiked tires and extra guns and sword just sweeten the package.

Here's my thoughts on MP-9....

I would really only recomend him if you're a completist, or a huge Hotrod fan. I have 4 of them (First MP-9, Second MP-9, Hasbro MP Hotrod, MP-9B) and they all terrify me. The only one who actually broke is my Habro Rodders (feet) but my first run MP-9 has some janky pieces. I bought the second run MP-9 because I had visions of displaying him in as many modes as possible, but I can't really attest to his tolerances as I barely posed him and left him on the shelf "just in case" he decides to fall apart. Two positives though: MP-9B once in hand, blew me away, he's really stunning. And, the QC problems of this mold are so widespread that there's readily available replacements pieces on eBay. Even diecast versions of the knee joints.

But yeah. For the price he commands these days, like I said: only buy if you're a huge fan or completist.

Talking of which, I REALLY hope they release MP-28 in those colours... it'd be nice for a better, solid mold to have that really cool colour scheme. And it'd even be relevant considering Lost Light Rodimus is in very similar colours right now!

I wouldn't really "better" in the sense of overall quality per se. I think "more desirable" is a better way to put since Diaclone and Microman aren't used as much as inspiration for decos compared to Transformers. Of course, the premise changes a bit when retooling is involved, like in the case of Road Rage and Exhaust, or new accessories are introduced like with Artfire.

From my experience, I preffer the original characters. I have red bee and thats merely all he is. he doesnt wear the mold any better than Yellow bee. its made to look like the g1 cartoon character and neither the g1 nor the red bee were ever cartoon characters.
I also have roadrage and while that mold blows either way, at least Tracks can lock his head, so points go to tracks.
I also have YOTG Soundwave and he isn`t better than the standard soundwave since those are the colours we know him as.

I guess my idea is that the MP line is supposed to represent the characters we see on the show, so I favour the character they were intended for. I usually get the secondary uses inorder to try the mold out for cheaper (since they rarely sell as well unless they are exclusives).

No, thats way too much to pay for dissappointment. I bought roadrage for 35$ and still felt i overpaid. It is with no question the biggest dip in the mp line since mp 09 rodimus.

But if you have an attachment to the character it becomes a different story. I dont.

You might end up paying the same amount though, once shipping is taken into account.

If you just wanted it for the car, you were better off getting roadrage for $30 at tfsource https://www.seibertron.com/transformers ... 999/38378/

Was he? I really dont think he was simply because the reboot is so synonymous with MP 10 and Hasui coming into the fold. He has the right scale for Rodimus, yes, but I feel its more as a coincidence to how they chose to make the MP line moving forward. He's as much a coincidence of the right scale as MP03 is. At least thats how I interpret how this line unfolded at Takara HQ.

Thats exactly what I said. The line and consistent scale reboots with Convoy, not Rodimus.

But no worries, we are saying similar stuff just differently. And why would raodrage have cost you $50? Florida residents wouldnt have to pay taxes for a tfsource product no?

For me, I do find these obscure references more appealing. Since I have no fiction based attachment, homages to the old toys are right up my alley! It plays to my love of Takara SF Land, and the old toys. I had "Clampdown" as a kid /still have, so when they released him, I flipped at the chance to get an update. Even though Artfire isn't a Diaclone reference, or a character that I was all that familiar with in the first place, the design that went into his tampos grabs my attention because of the nod to the old style and design that went into the older toys. I prefer Road Rage to Tracks, because of the creative license taken to make her a her, and I prefer Loud Pedal to Tracks because he has that old Head design I loved as a kid. Also LP's deco...
I find myself loving the odd balls more than the proper releases. I'm not really sure why either. Maybe it's like, theiy're excited because they're always something you weren't expecting? If a new TF series debuts for example, you know there's going to be an Optimus Prime and (these days) Bumblebee. For the things that are expected, it's hard to get excited. Also it might be because these are things we never thought we'd see back when the MP line started. MP Bluestreak, then MP Silverstreak, THEN MP BLueblue?? Ten years ago, I couldn't have called that :-?

On the topic of the Vette mold, my thoughts are contradicting to how I normally veiw things and I'm the minority.

I think hands down, Tracks wears it best. The blue is stunning, the white wings, and the yellow details have a great contrast. Rager feels dull to me. Her red doesn't pop, and her dark blue secondary color just fades into the background. Loudy is much better, but I still feel takes a back seat to Tracks.

So this might be relevant stuff for the thread! Say hello to the uncirculated/un-released MP-23 Exhaust Coin! If y'all were keeping up on the news at the time, you know that there was all sorts of legal problems surrounding this figure. Amongst a ton of speculation of him being outright cancelled, they slightly modified his paint layout (which still didn't even satisfy Philip Morris lol) in order to get him on the shelf. But the coin wasn't so lucky. Little known fact, it was fully produced and ready to go before said changes occurred, so it was outright scrapped at the last second. And! My perseverance and patience paid off! Have a look:

Greetings Seibertron, we have a bit of a treat for you today! Remember that time when cigarettes almost ruined Transformers? I'm of course referring to the dramatic past of Takara/Tomy's Masterpiece MP-23 Exhaust, and the legal issues they had with Philip Morris. Amongst a ton of speculation of him being outright cancelled, he did eventually find his way to *some* store shelves. Unfortunately though, his Collector Coin wasn't so lucky. It may not be common knowledge that said coin was fully produced and ready to go, but didn't get a "quick fix" in time for release like the figure itself and the coin was abandoned. Where did the coins go, an incinerator? Left boxed up collecting dust in a factory somewhere? Much is unknown, but apparently some of them escaped that sad fate and we can now show you what could have been. See below!
