It has been a slow build with Seibertron showing all the bases connecting together bit by bit throughout this year. However, with Magnus Prime and Overlord out now (in Canada), Titans Return's mega city can finally be completed. Of course, what you see below is just an example of what can be accomplished since the amount of configurations at this point is endless. The pictures below involve all the official bases from the Titans Return line, so every leader figure and the two titan class figures.

This isn't the last of these articles though, there will be a follow up with Takara's exclusive God Bomber added in since he too has a base mode that can connect.

Enjoy!

Have you put together a top 5 base modes list? And how about a top 5 fan mode base mode list?

Just some thoughts.

william-james88 wrote:Sorry if I seem so hung up on this, but remember those comments with people complaining about Titans Return shelfwarming? I know it makes fans sad to see the same toys all the time they go to a store, but does that mean that Titans Return is indeed not popular? I am asking because I cam back from an almost fully stocked TRU today. It had lots of movie stuff and older Titans Return stuff as well. Only Wolfwire and Roadburn/Bee/Brawn were left from the more recent TR stock.
But you know what wasnt there? Or at any TRU in Montreal (one of North America's biggest cities) ? Robots in Disguse Deluxes. I asked to see if what I was seeing in this store was the same elsewhere and after searchng through their digital inventory it was confirmed that they were sold out everywhere. That means everyone, including the countless Strongarm, Bee, Prime and Grimlock rereleases. All gone. And we know that those were ordered more than the TR deluxes (which sell at the same price point).

...

This to me proves that Tians Return in general is indeed niche and that kids are the primary market for toys (well for toys sold in toy stores). We collectors arent that big an audience. The fact that TR toys "shelfwarm" means that there isnt enough of us that care to buy more niche characters not supported by accompanying media.

Just wanted to state an observation, that display really stuck me is all.

I think the key point you mention is accompanying media. Kids want what they see on TV. I know this because my 6 year old cousin loves Rescue Bots and wanted them and I helped his father track down the gift set of the original 4 Rescue Bots. Now he's started watching G1 and is lucky to have his father's G1 Power Master Optimus Prime to play with which is easy enough for him to transform. I'm sure in the next year or two when they come to town to visit he'll want to see my neo G1 (CHUG) collection because that's what he's watching with his father now.

I wish Hasbro made a real effort to make current media targeted at kids for the Generations line, especially since they have done such an amazing job with combiners and titan masters and soon the Prime line. These deserved current media to help sell the toys. At the very least they deserved proper webisodes on par with RWBY and Red vs. Blue. I'm talking weekly 10 minute YouTube videos that tell a story over 15 webisodes. Combiner Wars was lacking and very late. We'll see what Titans Returns brings but that too is way late so there goes any hope of using media to sell toys. I just don't understand how one of the companies that created the ultimate 20 minute toy comercial has so utterly failed at advertising its toys in the modern media age.

Can the cabs and trailers for CW Ultra Magnus and TR Magnus Prime be swapped and still have functional robot modes?

You mean attaching the CW Ultra Magnus cab onto the Prime trailer?

It should be possible yes. But why?

You want to give Magnus Prime's trailer a white cab?

Disregarding Godbomber - I'm more interested in the Magnus Prime/God Ginrai (heck even Powermaster Optimus Prime) cab with the Ultra Magnus trailer going back to me wanting Magnus Prime to be more Ultra Magnus than Optimus Prime.

Some random thoughts - but somethings I would do different with the Prime Wars Trilogy: Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus should have been Titans Return Ultra Magnus with Minimus Ambus as a Titan Master/Headmaster. This Titans Return Ultra Magnus should then be re-tooled to a Power of the Primes Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex maybe as a Prime Master.

The only thing is the inside of the cabs are different. Ultra Magnus inside is more like a cockpit. The hinge that connects UMs head connection is different than the head master connection. The outer chassis is the same so if you left it in vehicle mode then its a go. Also if you wanted Magnus Prime to have UM's head then it is also a go. I had to check all three of mine since I have the PC-16 connected to God Ginrai I have a loose truck cab to inspect easily lol. But yes it can be done with ease...and you should take pics too lol.

Technically the Ginrai / PMOP cab also is a cockpit albeit a smaller one to hold a Titan Master which is smaller than Minimus Ambus which sits inside Magnus's cab. The hinge that hold the PMOP / Super Ginrai helmet doubles as a seat for the titan master in Truck mode.

The cabs are attached to the trailer exactly the same. Same screw connection. And should technically be about the same size, so should fit in the chest of one another's trailer armor / body.

IMG_5282.JPG

So you would end up with an Ultra Magnus body with an optimus prime head, and a PMOP body with a Magnus head.

I decided to take some side by side pics of Magnus Prime and Ginrai. There's not a lot of differences.
IMG_20170823_211017.jpg

Ginrai has a white codpiece with red paint plus the bottom of the chest piece is red instead of silver.

IMG_20170823_211052.jpg

Ginrai has white spots on the chest instead of silver. His windows are also a lighter blue.

IMG_20170823_211110.jpg

Ginrai has no red paint on the side.

IMG_20170823_211123.jpg
Magnus prime has a much bigger Autobot symbol.

IMG_20170823_211213.jpg

Ginrai has white symbols instead of silver.

IMG_20170823_211304.jpg

Ginrai has just slightly darker red paint on the fists.

IMG_20170823_211456.jpg

Ginrai is significantly different in the head department.

IMG_20170823_212031.jpg

Ginrai has gray guns instead of black.

Hasbro superior, Takara inferior.

I would have to disagree, in that I feel that pretty much all of those changes seem mostly superficial, with the exception of the larger Autobot symbols on the trailer/legs looking more garish and gaudy compared to Super Ginrai's smaller ones that look more subtle and less in-your-face about themselves.

Nah, Hasbro uses inferior paints period.
I think both are the same but Takara is screen accurate to how Ginrai looked on Masterforce.

I think the paint choices are rather dull but a good substitute for those who do not have the Takara version. If I had my choice I would still pick Takara for the paint apps. Hasbro did do a good job for the price point tho...

Thinking more about it, the large Autobot symbols that Magnus Prime has on his trailer remind me a bit of those worn on the vehicle mode sides of RiD 2001 Ultra Magnus, which Car Robots God Magnus did not have:

A agree. Ginrai still looks better to me.
Personally I like the look of Magnus Prime a little better, but I'm not all that attached to Ginrai's specific look anyway so I'm not bothered by the 'inaccuracies' on the Hb one. I particularly appreciate that extra little red detail that MP has on the back of the trailer: it seems tie the whole thing together just a little better, and stops it from looking quite so much like a red trailer-front smashed onto an otherwise gray trailer as the LG version does.

Of course the most notable selling point for me (aside from the fact that Magnus Prime is cheaper and I've already paid for him anyway :P ) is those larger Autobot symbols - if my robots in disguise are gonna have faction symbols on their vehicle modes, I kinda appreciate them at least being unashamed about it. Though on the other hand the Takara take on the head-robot (I hesitate to call him Ginrai as well for fear of further confusing the situation) is much better to me, admittedly. I don't know anymore!

Got my Siege on Cybertron set in the mail last week. I finally opened it last night & I must say that I'm content with everything. Magnus Prime seemed to have good, tight joints, pretty much on par with my Super Ginrai (which I will probably sell at this point). My main reason for concern with this was seeing how the Liokaiser box set turned out last year. The joints on the limbs of the planes & tanks felt so loose, due to overuse of the molds, I'm sure. :HASBRO: seemed to get it right this time. My only problem was getting Metalhawk's head to connect firmly at first, but after twisting the head backwards & forwards & playing with it for a bit, it went in just fine. If :HASBRO: is able to continue to provide this level of quality, it may make the decision between purchasing their products & :TAKARATOMY: releases of the same characters a tougher choice. Glad I was able to get my hands on this set.

Yup. It's a little tricky since the arms get in the way and stop the thighs from bending outward a full 90 degrees, so the tank parts end up being angled slightly inward toward the back. Also due to the way the legs work now, flipping the tank-turret-bits out will result in large gaps on the outside of the legs, if that sort of thing is bothersome to you. But bottom line yes it does work, and it doesn't look really much worse than it did on the G1 toy - especially if you extend the flaps on the back of the jet component and slap the tank turret up top (on the port also at the back of the jet) - that really ties it together a little better IMO. I'm not in a position to easily take photos right now but I'll try and get some tomorrow; I also remember there was a picture or two of the config a while back in this thread, but darned if I know who posted it or when it was though.

While I am glad to hear your Magnus Prime is tight and great, I am very surprised that he doesnt suffer from the other problems mine and others' share. Mine for instance has a major problem where his leg panels easily become undone in robot mode. It becomes a chore to pose him, not helped at all by the feet and useless heelspurs. So let me know if he is hard to pose and stand and if his legs dont have that issue. It's really making me hate the mold.

Plus, I saw that debate about which is better and I truly feel the deco differences are far from the issue here. The one thats better is the one which can stand properly and pose well. I havent handled the Takara one, but I make no hyperbole when I say that the Hasbro Magnus Prime is the worse toy from the Titans Return line.

Wait a sec, the question was why I didnt find it nevesary to include skateboard prime in my pic of all TR base modes and I answered it. That doesnt mean he can't be in any future pics featuring other bases that can connect, like God Bomber.

But anyways, I can tell you now that I will never have a pic including skateboard Prime simply because I dont have easy and affordable access to him since I do not live in the US. If anyone wants to replicate what I did in the pics and include him, you are free to do so and we will news it :)

I had not realized that, thats pretty cool. Too bad they didnt include Orion Pax' titan master. Then again, shredicus maximus is an sdcc exclusive, as is the trypticon cereal box so i get the cross promotion.

In my case, the Takara one is extremely loose and falls over a lot, whereas I'm very happy with the tightness on the Siege version because he can easily support the weight of the armor and be posed.

So, just confirming, the trailer panels that wrap around his legs do not become undone when you play around with Magnus Prime?

I didn't say the trailer sides didn't come loose in bot mode. It just doesn't matter as much as the takara version because the joints are tighter. Neither Ginrai nor MP consistently keep the leg panels tabbed into the sides. For me, Ginrai is floppy as hell and MP is stable, it might be the opposite for others.

I see. You come from a place where you already have Ginrai to compare while I do not. So different things pop out to us. Thanks for the explanation and that makes me sad about others who own Ginrai. I do agree that the untabbing is one of my only problems with him and the joints themselves are nice and tight on my MP. Plus, so few of these were made in comparison to other toys that we probably all have the same batch.

Cheers!

So you would end up with an Ultra Magnus body with an optimus prime head, and a PMOP body with a Magnus head.

with the Magnus Prime/Ultra Magnus cab-trailer swap, paint the Magnus Prime cab white, get the Ultra Magnus Titan Master from the Arcee set, and get someone to do an Ultra Magnus helmet replacement on Shapeways and I've got my Titans Return Ultra Magnus.

Wish I had the time...

I thought you weren't going to get Trypticon until sometime next year... ;)

Anyway...cool pics, in addition to God Bombr, I noticed Quickswitch is missing form that pic. Once I get MP and God Bomber tomorrow, all I need is Overlord and Trypticon to complete my city, if I ever get to see them in a store that is...

I know BBTS has Trypticon in stock (HTS and TRU do not), but the advantage of getting Trypticon at TRU in store is I can put him on layaway. its hard to drop $150 all at once on a single item...

Also about the Generaitons line, yes I agree after lengthy discussions we had previously it is niche, which is sad...but I'm not sure Hasbro has kids in mind solely. Sure kids are buying these no doubt. But when you have certain characters that no kid would know or care about unless their parents told them, I find it hard to believe that the development team (many of which were fans as kids themselves) would have ONLY kids in mind for Generations. Currently most Wal-Mart & Targets in my area have almost no Generations toys in stock, (I'm actually impressed at how well Broadside has sold, many stores in my area had 4-6 on the shelf at one time, unheard of for any single voyager...and yet somehow, they are all gone...) mostly Movie toys, followed by RiD15. TRU seems to be the only chain keeping a healthy stock of Generations. Also most TRU have the Transformers section split currently. They have an up front display (basically any toyline promoting a summer film), and their regular location in the store...

Speaking of which, I am no fan of the movie line to be sure...but what in the world would posses Hasbro to make an $80 Sqweeks toy? BB8 he is not...biggest waste of money I've ever seen, I expect to see those clearance out at $15-$20 around holiday time.

Query, Does Trypticon have secret features not mentioned in the instructions like Metroplex?

Example of such, The robot mode knee platforms

No respect for the copyright I tell ya

Now, onto the Siege set! My thoughts, in order of best to worst.

1) Tidal Wave. This guy is amazing (Sorry Hellscream and Kurona). the paint work is awesome and the bulky feel of the mold works so well for the character. He may not be tall, but his is heavy duty. and the head is gorgeous. All the work put into this guy is fantastic, and he beats up Broadside handily.

2) Thunderwing. Same as Tidal Wave really, the paint work is fantastic, and the die cast makes me grin so much. and he works perfectly with Nitro Zeus as hoped. That is where he is staying.

3) Metalhawk. Paintwork is the same as the first 2, and they all look good with Alpha Trion, considering the Botcon level of attention to detail to them. The mold is great, the paint is great, and the head is awesome.

4) Magnus Prime. Good mold, like all the retooling from CW Magnus. The thing that makes him stand apart - literally - is Godbomber though, so he only takes a higher spot when combined. But he is awesome. And huge in combined mode.

5) Pounce. This guys sucks. The paint is good, but the mold itself is just awful. The animal mode is junk, and the robot mode is sort of better, but the beast mode just sucks.

All good points. I will adress in point form, if you dont mind:

- There was an ok deal on Trypticon and he ended up being only about 10$ more than I planned on spending on him (I had told myself I wouldnt budge until he was 120 USD, but he was currently possible at 132 USD so I said it was worth it and the knees had supposedly been fixed).

- Quickswtich is defnitely there

Image

I totally get the point that generations is made with collectors in mind (as well as kids) and moreso than the RID line of course. And I was talking about that, but what I meant to say was that if it is meant for collectors, then where are the collectors? If there was enough demand, then those who complain about seeing the same TR figures months on end would not see them, they would be sold out. I was just realizing that maybe there simply isnt enough demand for generations figures and we arent as big in numbers as we may think we are. Basically, the demand for wave 3 TR deluxes has been met while the demand for RID warriors is still not met. And that fascinated me.

As for the 80$ sqweeks, I dont get it either. BB8 was even cheaper, I didnt mind spending 60$ on him, its one of the only things I ever bought that my wife approved 100%

In my case, the Takara one is extremely loose and falls over a lot, whereas I'm very happy with the tightness on the Siege version because he can easily support the weight of the armor and be posed.

Both molds seemed tricky to pose IMO, unless you go for something extremely basic. Seems like :TAKARATOMY: designed the legs to make you want to get God Bomber to make him more sturdy, but not much more poseable. I mainly like the mold for being closer to G1 Super Ginrai.

Cool Thanks. I did not see that reverse angle shot. I'm totally jealous you get to complete your city before I do  .

I have the schematic even planned out on paper heh.....Although this does make me wish Hasbro had gone forward with the other two Box Sets. God Bomber could have been the leader in one, and perhaps a New Decepticon mold in the other....

As you know for me its all about symmetry, and now God Bomber (oddly enough) will throw that off with 5 Autobot Base Modes to only 4 Decepticon ones...

But I'm sure with enough finagling and repositioning we can make it work.

I am sure it will. Its normal that he throws it off though, he isnt part of the mainline and thus not part of the symetry. I am currently thinking of another way to do these bases since a circle is not really thinking outside the box and it makes for a lot of unused space. Plus, Trypticon has connectors specifically for connecting in Dino Mode so I will see how I can make use of them.

And thanks for the compliments!

I'm only missing Skyshadow, Overlord and Trypticon and I have seen the latter two at walmarts and such but I don't have the funds to get them at the moment, I also don't have Magnus Prime in my house yet but I have paid for him and am waiting for the right time to ship the box set here.

Once I have them all I'll be sure to do an updated base set photo.

I bought the SDCC Prime here at Ages Three and up on their Canadian site with Black Convoy they were both late arrivals though to the store which I think is a good thing since it gives me time to gather funds.

Oh Crud...it never even occurred to me that Primitive Optimus Prime would have that sort of connectivity....I don't know why...Still, I think this is one rare case where my desire to "have them all" can be repressed/justified. Its the exact same thing as PM Prime. Sure it has some different accessories, but the characters is basically the same. I can justify Super Ginrai/MP as being different from PMOP, but Primitive... nah...I can let that go...

Try avoiding it when you have PMOP, Ginrai, Primitive, and Magnus Prime, then Takara comes out with the boxed set...

Yeah..well, if you are a fan of that mold specifically...more power to you. I was just trying to make a TR city with all available different characters. God Bomber to me was the only significantly different one that Hasbro did not release, and I still get to make God Ginrai ;) .
