We have a better look at MB-11 Leader Optimus Prime from the movie anniversary line Takara is releasing. He has been reviewed on Japanese site Digimono. Through this review, we learn what weapons he comes with, we see some new images, and we learn that he will have new sound clips from Japanese G1 (and movie) Optimus Prime voice actor Tesshō Genda (who is also the Japanese counter part of Kevin Conroy). You may be wondering how this toy is already finished when he is coming out March 2017 and all the images for the other toys in this line are just digitally painted. Well, that's because this toy already exists as Asia exclusive APS-01 Ultimate Optimus Prime, which so far has been a toy with an MSRP of over $200. With this Japanese release of this toy, they have improved him by giving Optimus a mouthplate and they reduced the amount of accessories to bring the pricepoint down to the $70-$100 range. The acessories he does have are two swords, two hooks, the gas tanks which turn into a gun and the knuckle accessory Optimus used against Shockwave is Dark of the Moon. This accessory was new and exclusive to the APS-01 release so far, as were the articulated hands, and all these features can now be obtained for a much lower price. This item is currently on preorder everywhere Takara toys are sold online.

I'm mildly interested in the Starscream figure as its a mold if Screamy I don't have. That would, however, require me to financially support the movie side of the business. I swore a long time ago never to do that again. Such a pickle......

At the very least, it's a good mold.

The way I see it, you are supporting Takara's practice to celebrate anniversaries and give us awesome paint apps, more than anything else. These are older molds and Hasbro already got all the support for those so this wouldnt really count in their numbers (at least not nearly as much as when that mold first came out).

I encourage whatever I like, and I like these. So I am buying 3 :)

And guys, I cannot stress it enough how awesome it is that we are getting this leader Optimus at that price.

This version looks so nice. Does anybody know if it can still combine with ROTF Jetfire? I assume he can but you never know. I sold my ROTF leader Prime awhile ago, but I still have Jetfire and I was thinking about picking this one up.

Do you remember where Jetfire connects with prime in that belly area? I ask because the 5 areas retooled for this release are the following:

Forearms: no longer have swing out sword (thank GOD)
Hands: now have articulated fingers
Gas tanks: now removeable
Abdominal area: those red hook pieces have been cut and the abdominal area was resulpted to look like organic abs.

Jetfire hooks onto the feet (no problem) and pelvis. Now I do not know if the reworked abdominal area means any change to the pelvis. If it does, then he cant connect, but if it doesnt and the pelvis is intact, then it would still be able to connect.

No way, its much better, its a "straight" reissue of this guy with a retooled head:

https://tfsource.com/transformers-asia/aps01u/

It has the most intricate paint apps so far. Just check all the details from the top shoulder to the forearm. Buster has that all in silver while this guy has individually colours gears and rivets. Its gonna be insane.

Jetfire doesn't connect to the pelvis, per se. The pieces just "rest" there, via the circular indents and the bottom of the windshield panels. The main connection is on the back, hooking onto the hinge and snapping onto the roof panel.

I have to be honest, I wish he had a little more paint on his head. He looks a little bland around the eyes and he has no silver on his ear antennae. The promo shot on BBTS shows he has those, but they aren't present here, so I don't know what to think. That's not to say I'm not impressed with the rest of the paint, but his face just looks a little barren.

Going on the wishlist. I need a new version of this mold soon, especially now that my 2009 one is used since I first got it. I do hope I can get him at some point with how my job is currently, though. But if there's a KO of this at a lower price tag, I'd get it.

Happy to finally pull the trigger on this Leader class Prime! The only one I have is the one from the first movie which is good but a bit chunky.

Not a lazy re-issue but actually with new features! Takara can suck at times with their ambitious Tracks/Roadrage mold but this one looks like a home run!

I was asking what was new for this release that wasn't in the APS versions. You suggested the fingers, which I answered as those having already been in the most recent APS version.

Takara has not done anything new with this toy. Every feature comes from a previous release of the figure. However the combination of features is new. It's the first time he comes with the knuckle AND a faceplate at the same time for instance. But Takara hasnt made any new feature that wasnt there before.

And the source I read this issue from (okay Burn don't go ballistic with this)

http://tformers.com/mb-11-10th-annivers ... /news.html

made a big fuss for articulated fingers. Maybe not all people are aware of this feature. Maybe you could confirm if the original mold of this figure never had "articulated fingers".

Then this re-issue is just is one of the many GREAT examples of how Takara goes an extra mile with their versions (which is a 5/5 to me) like UW Devs (elbows, weapons, two faces) UW Bruticus with Blastoff etc etc

The articulated fingers are not new, as stated. But the feature was planned for the original RotF release, making it to the stock photo stage. However, the economic crisis of 2008 meant that the parts count had to be lowered a bit, and designs simplified. Starscream, Sideways, Rampage and Optimus Prime were the most noticeably affected, in the latter case the hands became solid pieces:

Image

This was kept for all iterations of the mold until the APS-01U Optimus Prime Ultimate Edition. That release has both the Jetwing and Striker accessories, and even adds 2-2-1 articulated fingers, plus a knuckle buster and battle hooks. It's that release the 10th Anniversary release is based on.

They gave us nothing new. This feature is already available in the APS-01U release, which came out last year, as Jelze just stated. You can see those same hands in the pic below showing that release (of last year):

Image

So Tformers is incorrect, I dont know why they made a big deal out of this.

The only thing Takara did with this, is release that same toy (with the faceplate versin of the ROTF headsculpt) at a lower price point due to not giving as many accessories.

So now we can own the best version of OP for 70-100$ instead of over 200$. That's awesome of takara even though there is are no new features in this release.

So we get a cheaper face-plated version, no accessories hence cheaper version. As for the ethics of correcting another site's reports..........I'm staying away from that with a 10 foot pole.

10th Anniversary Optimus Prime comes with:

- Ion Blaster from the Buster Optimus Prime version.
- Battle Blades from the Striker Optimus release.
- Battle Hooks from the Ultimate Edition.
- Knuckle from the Ultimate Edition.

Really, the only things removed are the Jetwing backpack and guns, and Striker's Stealth Force Mode attachments.

It has been a few months that we are aware of Takara's plans for the 10th anniversary of the first live action Transformers film. What we didn't know was what the MB stood for in the item numbering, like MB-11 (which is a rerelease of Leader Prime). People thought it was short for Michael Bay. But no, it was revealed today that the line is called Movie the Best, meaning that this is Takara's choice for the best molds to represent the toys in a certain scale. Leader Optimus is an outlier (being number 11) since he is simply a chance to release the recent APS-01U Optimus Prime toy in Japan.

We mirrored the images below so that you can get a reminder of what they look like. These are coming out within two months, will you be getting any?

What about Milton Bradley? Motor Breath? Mind Blowing?

Bad jokes aside, I'm pretty excited about getting Leader Prime again, and with it being a reissue of the second Asia Premium Series Prime (without the Jetwing accessories) makes him a little more accessible for my budget.

I've got both Primes and Shockwave on order, they're the only ones I'm really interested in. It would be one thing if these were being spread out better, but all of these in two months alongside other releases is far too much.

And yeah, Playstation the Best was the first thing I thought of when seeing this title. Engrish, gotta love it.

Shockwave's packaging draws inspiration from the 3rd film, as the packaging features Sentinel Prime and the Driller, as well as a Revenge of the Fallen and Age of Extinction era Bumblebee alongside his own close-up on the front. Shockwave is labelled as MB-04. Check out the packaging below, and let us know what you think in the comments section!

...how? How you even do that?

A playset with metal tentacles.

There have already been TF tentacle playets before

Heck, there was the Ark playset from the same movie. I don't get why they didn't make a Driller for Legends Shockwave to ride around in.

I really wanted a Driller. That thing was cool and had potential for a great playset styled toy

Yeah but it is a giant worm and I don't think it would have appealed at all especially since those play sets did not sell at all. It was at the time when we got the Ark and Prime did the energon drill and Wheeljacks ship and all of those things ended up on clearance racks.

If we had gotten a driller it Would have probably been an early concept of the thing when it looked like Shockwave was using a chariot and it probably would have ended up looking like a slug that also shelfwarmed until it went on clearance.

I have speculated before the best way to do the Driller as a toy is as a Hybrid toy - part action figure accessory and part Role play Gun (not unlike the 2016 Rescuebots toys with trailers).

You'd have a large nerf rifle like toy with a geared spinning mechanism with spinning rubberised tentacles on it and perhaps some Nerf projectiles - it would have a handle to hold for kids to use.

It would also fold the handle up and sit on the ground and when pushed along the tentacles would undulate and spin.

On the back it would open and have a spot to slot Voyager Shockwave onto it so he's basically pulling a huge trailer with a spray of tentacles on the back.

Also on the top it would have an opening hatch that Legion Shockwave could sit in.

That is how i'd do it - if you look the driller designs up (the whole thing) you can see what I mean.

Also possibly it could be posed in a eating a building pose up chair legs and such.

Didn't the Cyberverse Shockwave figure came with the Driller?
