We have in hand images of Transformers Legacy Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Road Hauler to share with you (man that is a loooooong name). While he is a essentially a redeco of Grapple, there are several things to note:

1. He comes with a screaming face version of the Grapple head sculpt.
2. The peg issue in the back of the truck mode has been fixed (so slight retool there).
3. The windows have a blue tint rather than the ever so slight purple tint of the original this is homaging.

Also, I see quite a bit of confusion regarding this character online. While the name given to this toy is Hauler, which refers back to the ark crew bot seen before Grapple's introduction, it is not animation accurate at all, because that bot was in Grapple's colours (it was just an animation error, showing Grapple's model too early). An E-Hobby release later released a green redeco of the G1 Grapple toy and named it Hauler, after that bot. This is an updated version of that E-Hobby release, which you can see below. The images of the new Road Hauler come to us from a Prime vs Prime review.

Looks like screen-caps from that thief's youtube page. Why can't someone else get this stuff early and preview it instead of this wanker and his annoying voice (I once watched a review a long time ago befor I realized he gets stolen transformers).

Needless to say Ill pick this guy up when I find him, even with the "I'm taking a crap" or "STELLA" face.

It wouldn't fix the issue. Someone else would just do the review of the "stolen goods" instead.

Exactly. People want to see the things early and there's only ONE way to see the things early. Unless Hasbro get quicker with their own official "reviewer" that would show the thing in clear details like pro reviewers do on Youtube.

Awkward "show and tell" on potatocam like Hasbro stream do not count.

I'd argue this is a perfect example of supply and demand. Fans demand faster and faster look at upcoming releases so naturally some supply that to them. Hasbro will only be able to do so much to combat it. I'd argue they have been improving but there's still ground to cover.

Can we just have a dedicated thread for complaining about pre-release reviews instead of taking time out from line threads every single time a first look gets newsed

I'm skipping Hauler because I arbitrarily exclude animation errors from my G1 collection. Rainmakers are legit, I bought Redwing for some reason, Hauler is a hard "no." Could have gotten him for the Wreckers comic, but I'm biased against him for the G1 reasons.

Isn't that a good thing?

Yes, why are you asking?
The "despite" made it sound negative.

It's just a turn of phrase, not indicative of opinion. I find it more eloquent than "even though"

I understood from the start that he meant "even if they used all of Grapple's parts, the pegs issue that was fixed on Inferno/Artfire remains."

BTW, I fixed my Grapple by drilling the problematic holes just a tiny bit.
This was my intent, yes. I have seen some people wishing this figure used the Inferno head to match the toy, so I guess for them there may be negative feelings towards using all the Grapple bits except the pegs, but I'm indifferent on that front.

Why do they keep giving figures that screaming face?
I mean I appreciate them giving some retooling to an otherwise straight redeco but this doesn't look good. I'd rather the time or budget go to an additional gun or something.

Was Enemy an animation error? I thought he first appeared as a voice changer toy.

Yeah, the wiki is down so I can't provide details, and my memory could be off, but he had unnamed toy appearances that retroactively became associated with the name. That retcons idea is part of what I'm reacting against, as I basically consider Hauler to be a misnaming of Grapple, and the green deco from the Constructicons being the forced link. Hauler is a combination of two mistakes into canon, which is cool, but illegitimate to me personally.
Re: In Hand Images of Velocitron Hauler (2136298)

Hauler wasn't an animation error. He was fully scripted to appear in the scene that he did (See Pages 37-39 of the PDF), and had a completely different character model from Grapple.

The script even identifies him as a tow truck, suggesting that he was originally going to be the Hoist mold before the Grapple mold was considered. But since neither toy made it to the 1984 case assortment (with the twelfth figure slot being filled first by a second Mirage and then by Skids in late 1984), and since both the Hoist and Grapple molds were named such when they finally released in 1985, Hauler never appeared again in the cartoon.

Different animation model, different name, same base toy. In my opinion, same character. It's not an "error" per se, maybe better described as a mixup. This is firmly head-canon territory, but I find it more plausible that Cliffjumper used the wrong name rather than that there are two different yellow crane trucks that were never seen together.

To be more clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with the retroactive canonization of Hauler as a G1 character, I just refuse to acknowledge it in my own collection. If I absolutely had to have Hauler representation, I would have bought a second copy of Grapple so he'd be screen-accurate to that scene!

We all have our head-canon weirdness, but that's going a bit far. LOL. then again, Grapple is like 10 bucks. Get a Grapple, take the head from Hauler and Frankenstein him if you so require. I'll just get the figure and not care as I like getting extra guys for a whole other reason - it's a war and characters die. Want your favorites to live? Need some cannon fodder. LOL

Enemy was a Pre-Transformers Micro Change deco that originally went unused for Transformers back in the 1980s, and whose name was appropriated from the "Decepticon/Enemy" designation given to an AM Radio & Headset and to an Electronic Voice Changer, produced by licensee Nasta, that both shared the same basic color scheme to the unused Micro Change cassette dude.

This dead horse has been beaten to beyond pulp so I second that motion... but only as long it doesn't single out a particular reviewer (like we're doing here). Question is, which forum should that thread be placed in?

A better question would be why they keep resorting to that style of face when designing alternate heads  Mind you, pulling straws here, but that could be his face of agony as his backstory includes him being a Constructicon who defected; he was retconed into a scene of (the error-laden) Five Faces of Darkness with the 8(!) Constructicons (the other extra became Gravedigger) rebuilding Megatron.

I do this too. I'll headcannon just about anyone into a clone of someone, then pretty much kill them of.

In an oddly tangent thought, this is why I never had a problem non headmasters being given titan masters during Titans Return. You still get a figure of the "not supposed to be a headmaster" character but now with a bonus decapitation option.

Honestly, I'd rather have the RTS Solar Storm Grappel (sic) mold be used as a new version of Cybertron Mudflap. This way he'd still have the crane on his arm. Maybe retool it so it somehow had the crane on one arm and Inferno's cannon on the other. They'd never reuse that mold again though. It's too big for a voyager now probably. I always wanted to do this myself using GDO Hot Spot with Grappel's (sic) crane but never did. I'll settle for a multi shade blue Grapple Mudflap and like it though. I'll take another in forest green as the cancelled Cybertron Landslide as well.

I'll still take a baby blue Earthrise Inferno as Hot Spot too though.

I don't need any head cannon other than if I like a mold, I'll take more in other colors as other characters too. I don't need anything more than that sometimes. In fact, I'll take all the animation error colors too like orange and yellow Rumble, Dirgeclonus, dark green seeker EDIT:(dude's name is apparently Gunwing. When did he and the other generics and most of the animation error Seekers get named?), Air Warrior and everyone else too. Grimlock colored Octane? Kup colored Motormaster? Rodimus Prime colored Decepticon Snarl? Yes please!

That's not official.

I'd also be down for Grapple repaint Mercenary Mudflap, especially if (and others may not agree) the claw, nozzle, and crane hook were in translucent green plastic like Cybertron Mudflap's crane hook/saw and missile.

Why, it's a good figure, just so happens the new is spectacular! Besides, as hard as Bumblebee was to get I'd hold on to that old Cosmos.

They called Road Rocket female, is that just because they didn't change the body? Burnout is also female and uses a previously male body, seems strange. And then there's Override who we're well aware of the history of. What a weirdly gendered line this is turning into.

The Walmart exclusive Velocitron Speedia 500 set, which is not available to purchase/preorder until July, has been revealed by hasbro today.
It includes deluxes Blurr, Clampdown, Cosmos, Burnout and Roadrocket, voyagers Override and Hauler and leader Black Convoy (aka RID Scourge).

Important points, Clampdown has white plastic instead of red plastic in areas like the legs as a conscious decision to further differentiate him from Red Alert. Also, the panel confirmed that the Black Convoy in the set is meant to be RID SCOURGE, unlike what some fans had guessed (or hoped?).

Only thing I want from the reveals today is maybe Clampdown. Otherwise, nothing else interests me, which is a good thing. No need to spend money.

With all these Sideswipe repaints, wonder when we will see another use of the Sunstreaker mold. Been so limited, and its the one I want the most, since I was never able to pickup a Sunstreaker or the Selects repaints Cordon and Spinout.

Oh, so they consciously screwed up Clampdown's deco and made him look boring? Cool, I'm consciously choosing not to get him then.

Using the Crosscut head for Burnout is an interesting play, I don't not like it?

Cosmos...sure is a G1 Cosmos, which means I'm passing as expected. The flag is funny though. Looks like the rumor of being a Warpath retool/shared engineering did actually pan out, looks like the arm/backpack setup works the exact same.

Road Rocket looks nice, so I guess Clampdown and Cosmos will be the only ones I'm passing on.

Are there other Sunstreaker repaints for them to do? I thought those 2 Diaclones were the only ones. Or are you just looking for a straight rerelease?

What is TR Cosmos?

Titans Return Cosmos, I would imagine.

As would I, but isn't it just generations?
Oh wait, right, he was reissued
Rereleased in TR with altered paint apps, yeah.

Also, Road Rocket may or may not be female now, as they kept using female pronouns to refer to the figure in the stream. Though, it's also possible that the three simply weren't that familiar with Road Rocket as a character and just assumed the figure was female since it's retooled from Arcee. It's a little confusing.

And, Scourge's robot mode deco not being accurate was not addressed.

No, I think those 2 are it for Sunstreaker repaints.

We have 4 straight releases of Wheeljack and like 8 or so Sideswipe repaint / retools to various degrees, they could just make up a color. I just want the mold in some way.

A straight re-release of SS would also be fine by me.

Too bad pre-orders weren't available for this stuff. At this point, I'm just waiting for pre-orders on Black Convoy and Cosmos. The other stuff I'll pick up in Walmart. I just don't want to take the risk on those two.

I love that we are getting three fembots in this line. I didn't expect a new head for Burnout, but her head looks cool (and makes me think a Crosscut will appear at some point, possibly in Selects). Override does look better in hand, and though I know zero about Road Rocket, her head and deco give her a lot of personality- I think she must have always been the intended use of that mold, because she looks SO much better than Arcee.

Not to make him more boring, but to differentiate him and make him more police themed while keeping red alert firefighter themed.

Looks like the rumor of being a Warpath retool/shared engineering did actually pan out, looks like the arm/backpack setup works the exact same.

They did say that both he and Override were fully new molds. They usually let us know if they are partials.

It wasn't adressed but at least now the version he represents is adressed, and it's RID Scourge. Even on the box, so the Black Convoy listing was just a listing code and not the product's final release name.

As for Raodrocket, yeah they definitely kept saying She. I think they have changed the character's gender so that it works with the more feminin mold. Seems like female TFs can have all sorts of body types but it doesn't work the same way for males. I mean, there is a rather obvious breast plate on that Arcee mold.

My thoughts on the line:

> The biggest surprise is Scourge's naming. The leaks and store listings made it sound like they'd be going with the name Black Convoy to avoid confusion with Scourge from Rise of the Beasts, but because the movie has been pushed back so far perhaps they can get away with calling him Scourge now? Either way it's nice they went with the name Scourge, even though "Robots in Disguise 2000 Universe Scourge" is a bit of a mouthful isn't it?
> I'm not a big fan of Cosmos's vehicle mode, the top section that forms the robot's torso looks a bit too tall. Looking up some old images of Cosmos I'm guessing they were going for G1 toy and cartoon model accuracy, but even then, the top section on the original toy and cartoon model weren't as tall as the one seen here. Coudn't they have designed it so it collapses down a bit more? Either way, the flag accessory is cute, but shame only one side of it is painted.
> Generally though, this isn't a bad product line, even if I don't want everything it's nice how much effort has been put in to make it more than just a line of convenient repaints. I'll definitely be pre-ordering Override and Blurr, but I'm undecided on Scourge and Cosmos just yet. The rest I can skip, but they still look good.

Also, on an unrelated note, I can't help but feel the designer during the stream was actively taunting us with that Earthrise Dirge and Ramjet box in the background...

I know making the deco worse wasn't why they did it and there was an actual reason, but that's still what they ended up doing regardless.

I don't think they share any parts, but the engineering and how he transforms looks mostly the same to me, so either it's the same engineering and they didn't call it out because there's no shared parts, or it is new and they just took entire transformation steps from Warpath wholesale anyway.

Deluxe CosMos, niiiiice. And that black Skids is cool.

What is not cool is this whole line is a Walmart exclusive. I fear I'll miss out on everything because my Walmart suck ass at having any Transformers on the shelves.

Walmart Canada sucks ass in general. They don't carry exclusives consistently. With marvel legends, they transfer their exclusives to other random retailers (so skipping them). Not sure if they will do that with these as well.

Just saw hasbro's reveal stream today and it seemed all they talked about was the Walmart Velocitron line that they said would roll out in july. But why wouldn't they discuss the more immenant Target line that is comming TOMMOROW that was announced a couple of days ago?

How do we prepare 4 tommorow's target preorders if hasbro didn't talk about it today? Any info on the buzzworthy worlds collide Ransack 4 pack? Particularly,I need 2 know what that Goldbug is going 2 look like beforehand so I'll know if I'm going 2 Want 2 order it.Comon sense, right?
