Fellow Seibertronians Hinesika and Gavinfuzzy have gotten their newly available Hasbro Combiner Wars Deluxe Groove in stores and posted pics on our boards. We can see from the back of the box that it is issued/marketted as part of the SkyReign wave, (taking Smokescreen's spot).

They have also provided in hand images, let us know if you spot any differences with the Takara Groove (pictured at the end).

Also to those wondering if this will be available as an online exclusive in the US like Quickslinger and Brake-neck, BBTS has sent us the following comment:

Waiting to hear back from Hasbro on this, we hope to carry, but nothing confirmed

Yeah right. Groove is as long standing a member of the "Sky Reign" team as Rook is a Protectobot.
I'm so glad I got a preorder in on this so I can have a G1ish Defensor.

I think I might get Groove to replace Smokescreen. I will leave Legends Groove on Defensor, and rename deluxe Groove to something else. That way I can have best of both worlds. I am tired of the Wildfires/Streetwise mold.

I'm glad we agree that Rook is a very integral part of the Protectobots. Enjoy your Groovy Sky Reign. :D

But in all seriousness, they're pretty obviously marketing him that way because those are the toys (supposedly) on shelves right now. The same reason Dragstrip was part of Superion. We know where he really belongs and Hasbro isn't trying to sweep that under the rug.

It is so weird that he has Blades' gun and not Rook's.

Not really. Hasbro is using the exact same deco and molding from takaras groove. That hand was no doubt part of his mold kit. Accessories are part of the figures entire molding. Hence why hinges on some hands were colored like parts of the characters. That's why quickslinger and brakeneck came with firefly and deadends hands/feet piece and not alpha bravo and off-roads respectively.

Unite Warriors Defensor had the Alpha Bladetex HFG for both feet, and the Offroad/First Aid HFG for both hands.

So this is not terribly surprising.

While I imagine they are trying to move away from CW and towards TR it's nice these guys are still getting a release.

They should really do one more round of repaints just to finish off all the first year Autobots. For completeness. :-P

Jazz-Dead End Mold
Bluestreak-Streetwise mold
Sideswipe-Breakdown mold
Ratchet-First Aid mold
Jetfire-Silverbold mold

That's exactly what's needed, another round of autobots.

How about a movie themed decepticon combiner:
Megatron using Onslaught
Barricade using Prowl
Blackout using Alpha Bravo
Starscream using Air Raid or Sky Dive
Soundwave using Powerglide
That pink Bugatti using Breakdown

I like Deluxe Groove, but not enough to pay $22 plus shipping. I didn't jump at Wildrider or Slingshot, so I probably won't go for this (although it is a new mold...). Crossing my fingers for a G2 Defensor set somewhere down the line...

Megatron and Starscream get enough toy attention, let the other Movie 1 Decepticons get their own combiner to themselves with:

Hot Spot > Scorponok
Brawl > Brawl
Streetwise/Prowl > Barricade
Alpha Bravo > Blackout
Offroad or First Aid or Rook > Bonecrusher
Legends Groove > Frenzy

$22 is a bit much, especially given how this isn't the only way to get this mold now that Computron is coming. I still want him to use instead of Smokescreen. I would be okay if they painted him like Override though.

Bluestreak made from the Combiner Wars Prowl mold is this year's custom figure at botcon (or so the smart money says). So if there's someone going to botcon, and you want that figure, you might want to enroll in that class..

Why the heck does everyone assume this? The Botcon site specifically says this:
Botcon Site wrote:This Combiner Wars figure is based on a 1984/1985 Generation 1 character and features a head sculpt not sold at retail.

If they believe that Skydive's head is close enough to Cicadacon's, then there's no chance in heck that they'd give Bluestreak a new head, given the similarities between Prowl's and his.

What a sneaky cash grab on Hasbros part. They couldn't have just released this with Defensor instead of Rook? Now you gotta drop ANOTHER 25$ for a deluxe figure if you want a G1 Defensor.

Be fair, Groove's been a member of Team Sky Reign since a few months after it formed.

And if you can't appreciate Rook, I'm not sure whether to regard you with contempt or pity.

Oh, it's never gonna happen, but I like the idea of using some post-G1 characters. Here's a few more I think might work:

Bruticus - RiD2001 Ruination (Obvious)

Dead End - RiD2001 Side Burn

Breakdown - Cybertron Hot Shot (Sword colored to look like Cybertron Defense Hot Shot's)

Legends Groove - Cybertron Ransack (straight-up redeco)

First Aid - Armada/Cybertron Red Alert

Hot Spot - PCC Smolder

Rook - Bulkhead (Wrecking ball would be a nice addition.)

You can take your pick, really. Doesn't matter to me.
I don't have any problem with Rook or any of the new guys, although the only one I really like is Off Road. I just wanted updated combiners. I didn't want new members. Fortunately for all of us, we got the option of both.

Brawn is already coming out which is why I didn't include him. Though we could get another Bumper from the Legends Bumblebee (I'm trying to say first year. Perceptor from Shockwave would be interesting)

I suggested a movie themed combiner a while back. I forget when, though I had Wreckage from Rook, Dropkick from Offroad, and Hot Spot as the traitor Sentinal Prime.

I wouldn't mind a Beast Wars combiner. I just hate when they use vehicle molds for animal characters. We need new molds for the Beast Wars.

I suspect they went with Smokescreen over Bluestreak because the blue color scheme makes him look much more different from Prowl and Streetwise than a grey Bluestreak. Now that Smokescreen's out, I don't think they would do another blue repaint.

Just a rumour. But it does make sense that with hasbro moving on, extra characters made from these molds would be from another source (like the club).

Anyways, I just though of something. Guys, remember Energon Bruticus? He had a white torso and his head looked like Nova Prime.

An homage could be achieved with the pieces we already have by using the Bruticus limbs and pairing them with the Battle Core Optimus Prime redeco. I mean, thats what I thought of right when I saw this on the front page:

Not that anyone's opinion on any of them matters. Chances are all three of them are already as good as forgotten as far as Hasbro and IDW are concerned (and for TakaraTomy, those three were never part of their world in the first place).

That's pretty cool! Although I forgot that the combined head was still that optimus head and not something that looked more along the lines of the new non combiner head it has. Now that I think about it, it would have been cool that its new combiner head look more like Nova Prime, it would have been dead on.

Still, love seeing that, thanks Cobo and I am glad I inspired some of the fun that was had with your combiners ;)

Yup, Lio Convoy was a club exclusive made from this mold. But Nova Prime was also a Club exclusive. So that year, the club had two white redeco exclusives of the same mold.

I'd say people's opinions of them matters quite a great deal. I like toys based on my own thoughts and ideas, not what a company plans on doing with them.

I didn't mean to say that I don't like Rook. I find him to be a good figure, but he's a bit dull to me in all modes. My favorite deluxe of the line is the Dead End mold, despite its issues in both limb modes. I think Off Road is the best blend of toy and personality, looks-wise, and while I really do hate to be 'that guy,' Alpha Bravo is decent, and I like Blades and Vortex quite a lot, but the childish AB fanboying really turned me off to the figure.

Maybe if the non-white redecos were better, they would make people bat their eyes.

Sorry Va'al I love the fanboy'ing, but as all my heli-limb figures have a load of qc issues, I have to say I rather loathe that Victorion has two =;

I don't mind people not liking the mold, I just need to keep up appearances. ;)

instead of the Shockwave we got, couldn't they have given us something like this instead?

I'm still holding out hope for a few more "Classic" repaints for Combiner Wars. Bluestreak, Hoist, Ratchet, and Sideswipe would seem like a slam-dunk no-brainer for quick money. Give us all the '84 Decepticon seekers too, not just Ghost Starscream from the Grand Galvatron set. I'd love to give these to my nephew as an easy way to build up his stock of G1 characters on the cheap. The streamlined transformations are perfect for his age and ability, and he loves the combiners he already has.

I'm with you Jake. ;)^

That Shockwave custom is amazing!
Anybody wanna field a guess as to who the limbs are supposed to be?
I have no clue, but some of the colors are cool.

They're Runabout, Runamuck, Decepticharge, and Alternators Dead End (as a Shockwave-made clone of the real/regular Dead End). And the little Legends Shockwave is colored like Energon Six Shot and named "E6". All courtesy of master customizer Rob "Cheetimus Primal" Roberts.
