“Life isn't a matter of milestones but of moments” - Rose F. Kennedy

Night-time super-hero and day-time news crew member El Duque finishes tagging and sprucing up a story about a video review of United Frenzy and Rumble. He clicks the submit button, and tada, Seibertron.com has reached one of it's greatest milestones, 20,000 news posts!

It's amazing to think that back when Seibertron.com was born, we were just a very a small fish in a big sea. Fast forward over 10 years, and this site has been blessed with so much, that's it's nigh impossible to explain it in words. I wouldn't believe anyone who would have told me 10 years ago that our community would be hooked on video reviews of grown men fiddling with toys, that we'd be getting incarnations of Rumble and Frenzy left, right and center, that Transformers would be turned into a live-action trilogy, and that toy collectors around the world would be knee-deep in toy line after toy line of Transformers.

Despite the good times, the bad times, and everything in between, we wouldn't even be close to putting up 20,000 news posts if it weren't for you guys! To every single member of the forums, our wonderful sponsors, and the hard working people behind the Transformers scenes, we salute you. Seibertron.com would like to thank everyone on the news crew, past and present, who have helped to contribute to this phenomenal milestone. Over 94 different members over the past 10 years have helped contribute to this total! And of course, you guys should certainly thank the rest of my current colleagues on the news staff for keeping this site alive and breathing! We salute Down_Shift, Razorclaw0000, RodimusConvoy13, Nekoman, Diem, El Duque, Dead Metal, DevastaTTor, Mach, Lost_Cybertronian, TCracker, and tigertracks_24!

Of course, like Rose F. Kennedy said in the quote above, it's about celebrating the moments, not always the milestone itself! Can you recall what your favorite Seibertron.com news post was? Which story was the first one you read on the site?

Seibertron.com independent researcher and all around smartbot, Sabrblade, has done the Transformers community a real favor in trying to understand exactly where the TRANSFORMERS: EXODUS book written by Alex Irvine fits into the scheme of the Transformers universe.

Sabrblade uses his skills, research, and color coordination to help us all to make sense of the similarities of certain events and characters in the Transformers universes, and where things such EXODUS, and THE WAR FOR CYBERTRON game do not match up, even though EXODUS was originally billed as a prequel for the WFC game, and then an official history for the Transformers universe.

Why the labor of love for Sabrblade which took months to decipher?

"Ever since I first heard about the War for Cybertron video game, I had had a strong curiosity about what sort of story it would tell. All I knew at the time was… that it was set before the war escalated to Earth. Granted, this was long before we knew about the Transformers: Prime cartoon or anything of the Aligned Continuity. Ergo, I had an urge to find any clue as to what sort of story this game would tell and where it go from there.

Then, some point prior to BotCon 2010, more info about the game kept coming out. Any suspicions I had about it being a prequel to some Generation 1 fiction (as was originally believed by many) began to somewhat flicker, as word about this game being some sort of foundation for a new “mega-continuity” became known. But, I still wasn’t certain of what that meant.

By the time of BotCon 2010, I had then come to the awareness of a certain novel titled “Transformers: Exodus – The Official History of the War for Cybertron”. Hearing such a title led me to assume that it was merely the War for Cybertron game in a novelized form. An assumption that I would later find out to be a severe fallacy on my part.

After having this book recommended to me at BotCon, I picked up a copy of my own at a later point, but only began to read it once I found the time. Prior to reading it, however, was when I had discovered that my previously-made assumption about the book was incorrect. I began to read some opinions about this book and many other people agreed that it was drastically different from the game it was based on. This notion intrigued me greatly.

After having finally taken the time to read this book and then experience the WFC console game, I developed an urge to decipher this book’s continuity, picking out what all made this book’s story different from that of its game counterpart. However, as the months went on (that’s right, this project has taken me several months to complete) this task soon became much more than that.

What started out as compare/constrast deal between the Exodus novel and the WFC console game grew to incorporate aspects from other TF franchises as well. Now, I’ve gone and compared/contrasted key elements from Exodus with those in WFC, the G1 cartoon, the two Beast Era cartoons, the three Unicron Trilogy cartoons, the live action movie fiction, and the Animated fiction.

And thus, I give you “Exodus Vs.”"

The ever so elegant site moderator and super hero, Counterpunch took the opportunity to speak with the gracious folks at Hasbro during Toy Fair. He was able to get answers to several questions. While these things are likely going to change over time or as circumstances change, it's still good information to take in right now.

General info from Hasbro Reps
-MP Rodimus is not immediately forthcoming-
So, there is real interest in bringing it over. However, don't expect to see anything soon. Essentially, this will depend on a retailer coming through with an exclusive. From the tone of the conversation, it seemed as if that was not going well. Remember though that it took around a year to get Grimlock from Japan to the Western markets. However, we also got info on that at Botcon and SDCC. So, I would look to that as your answer on if we'll see Rodimus in this year or next.

-Powercore Combiners appear to be done...ish-
There was no trace of the line at Toy Fair. The rep seemed surprised that Undertow wasn't at market yet and that the Dinobots were hard to find.

Info from Greg Lombardo, Senior Director of Global Marketing for the Transformers brand at Hasbro
-Those Wal Mart SKUs for Arcee and Starscream-
Those were meant to be the Prime toys. They are NOT Classics style figures. Originally, the Prime toys were going to be fit into the Generations line. Now they are getting their own 4th quarter 2011 line. What we have seen so far is a pre-cursor wave, kind of to avoid the whole Animated show/toy debacle. We will get a new Prime and Megatron in larger sizes. Starscream will not necessarily get a larger toy.

-Mechtech-
The figures are smaller due to the Mechtech toys. It's not a cost of oil/production issue.

-Generations/RtS/United Decos-
How Takara gets the decos they do, is by individual pricing of their figures. For Hasbro, a wave has a cost to it that is split up amongst the figures in the wave. They have to ration out who gets what and how many paint apps. Takara is able to price a figure individually and as such, the budgets are different per figure. They aren't bound internally by wave. So, instead of Jazz costing $12 or 1500Y at retail, they can give him the appropriate deco and charge $13.42 or 1572Y...whatever it takes to cover the cost. It's a matter of flexibility.

-DotM-
Many or most of the toy decisions were made such that the toys would not be a rehashing of what they've already done. There was an effort to ensure that figures were fundamentally different.

Counterpunch can clarify any of these points, but he can't tell you anything about stuff he didn't ask about.

Other things that he took away from the show:
-DotM voyagers are SMALL.
-Hasbro really seems to be taking the product back to kids, perhaps leveling it down by 2 years in the age bracket.
-The Star Wars team really knows their shit.
-The GI Joe collectors are getting really, really, really nice 3 3/4 inch figures. Really.
-Mechtech looks dumb, but it is probably fun for kids.
-Ultimate Optimus Prime is kind of cool looking. Much better than the pics.
-Legends figures have really come into their own. (They're just not coming into Counterpunch's house!)

Crash Test 'Cons

Are you perhaps wondering what the deal is with the Twincast Episode 12 title? It couldn't possibly have to do with an important announcement regarding everyone's favorite yearly Transformers event...

My advice is to bend your ear with the sweet digital resonance of our charming voices for an hour or so. By the end, you'll be treated to information you've no doubt already heard by this time today except this time it will be peppered with our endearing opinions and amazingly priced at the low, low cost of $0.

In the mean time, we'll be discussing a few other toy related topics, doing our regular take on Transformers history, and even answering another one of our listener questions.

Links to download the show are below. (iTunes integration is coming soon)
